FORAMINIFERAL ASSEMBLAGES AND PALEOCENE BIOSTRATIGRAPHY OF WESTERN SIBERIA

V. M. Podobina

Middle Paleocene (Selandian Stage) has been studied in many well sections of Western Siberia. Selandian Stage corresponds to Ammoscalaria friabilis foraminifera zone. In marginal areas, strata with Cibicidoides proprius have analogous stratigraphic position. Based on published papers, secreted-calcareous forms of these strata were compared with coeval species from the south of Sweden. Many species of Siberia and southern Sweden were found to be similar, which gave an opportunity to define more precisely the age of Western Siberia assemblage and therefore of Ammoscalaria friabilis zone to be Selandian. Attached are six paleontological plates with pictures of species characteristic of Selandian.

Key words: Paleocene, Selandian, Talitsa Formation, foraminifera, Western Siberia.
