MIDDLE PALEOZOIC MEGACOMPLEX OF THE EASTERN SIBERIAN PLATFORM AS A PROMISING OIL AND GAS EXPLORATION TARGET IN YAKUTIYA
G. S. Fradkin, S. A. Moiseev, A. F. Safronov
The paper presents a structure model and well-reasoned concept for the Middle Paleozoic evolution of a single sedimentary basin in the eastern Siberian Platform, which covered the Vilyui syneclise, Pre- Verkhoyansk and Yenisei-Khatanga foredeeps. The study also provides information on the stratigraphy, formations, paleogeography, and tectonics of the Devonian-Lower Carboniferous megacomplex and highlights geological factors predetermined petroleum potential of Middle Paleozoic and more ancient reservoirs and regionally shielded by thick and persistent Devonian salt-bearing strata. The notion of the presence of saliferous and potentially petroliferous Middle Paleozoic deposits below the Upper Paleozoic-Mesozoic cover is substantiated. Subsalt anticlinal structural traps within the Suntar-Kempendyai and Nordvik-Khatanga areas are appraised as the most favorable and promising exploration targets. Well-developed structures within the Atyyakh, Kedepchik, and Uchugei horsts are suggested as top-priority prospects.
Key words: Siberian Platform, Vilyui syneclise, Yenisei-Khatanga foredeep, Middle Paleozoic, sedimentary basin, tectonics, petroleum potential.
