SYSTEMATIC AND LITHMOSTRATIGRAPHIC APPROACH AS A BASIS OF BASIN STRATIGRAPHY AND IDENTIFICATION OF PETROLEUM PLAYS

The paper discusses fundamental theoretical and methodological issues of monovariant delineation of petroleum plays in a sedimentary succession of any basin regardless of its type and age. This line of research is based on theory and methodology of system-stratigraphic paradigm, according to which a sedimentary succession of any sedimentary basin (including petroleum-bearing one) is considered as a hierarchic rocklayered system of stratigraphic units (stratons).
