JUNCTION STRUCTURES OF THE WESTERN ALTAI-SAYAN FOLDED REGION AND THE OB-ZAYSAN FOLDED SYSTEM
Based on the structural-paragenetic anlysis of a wide territory of the Great Altai and summary of the recent geological survey data, the author considers structural evolution of the junction zone of the Siberian continent margin blocks represented by the western part of the Altai-Sayan folded region and the Ob-Zaysan folded system as an intercontinental geosuture. The paper provides data confirming that the structure of the junction zone evolved in various geodynamic environments - compression, strike slip, and local extension - under local pressing-out and associated tectonic flow in the rear of the Kazakhstan orocline, and the Rudny Altai megablock evolved as a complex pull-apart structure developing at an active continental margin in the right-trending strike slip zone. The importance and structural features of the Irtysh shear zone, the Kulunda massif and other fragments of the structural complex were considered.
Key words: structural complex, pull-apart structures, tectonic flow, shears, duplexes, Altai.
