The paper deals with an identification of mutual spatial distribution patterns between ore occurrences and faults within the South Gobi gold belt. When studying the confinedness of ore occurrences to faults of different directions, it turned out that ore occurrences, regardless of genetic type and age, tend to faults of sublatitudinal direction and are confined not to areas with an increased density of faults, but to areas with a medium density. It places in question the correctness of using faults digitized from medium-scale maps as a criterion for predictive metallogenic models.

Keywords: structural control of mineralization, metallogeny of Mongolia, porphyritic, orogenic, ore occurrences, Gobi, Au-Cu, copper, gold.
