PETROLEUM SYSTEM AND HISTORY OF THE FORMATION OF HYDROCARBON ACCUMULATIONS IN THE UPPER TYUMEN SUBFORMATION (NORTHERN WEST SIBERIA)

This article presents results of comprehensive studies of the structure and evolution of the Lower- Middle Jurassic petroleum system. The study primarily aimed to the reconstruct the history of the formation of hydrocarbon accumulations in Yu2-Yu4 formation intervals of the Upper Tyumen subformation, identified on major uplifts in the northern areas of Nadym-Pur and Pur-Taz oil and gas bearing regions. Based on the research results, it was established for the first time that in the study area, the initial stage of paleo-trap filling with hydrocarbons correlated with the time of Lower Jurassic source rocks sinking into the main zone of oil formation. The current guise of oil accumulations resulted from the structural rearrangements of the top of the Tyumen Formation completed by the recent tectonic processes in the West Siberian geosyneclise. The approach used can improve the reliability of estimation of hydrocarbon potential of new prospect areas, and optimize exploratory and appraisal-well locations.

Keywords: Western Siberia, northern areas of the Nadym-Pur and Pur-Taz oil and gas regions, Upper Tyumen subformation, petroleum system, formation of hydrocarbon accumulations.
